Homemade electrolyte lemon-limeade recipe. Refreshing and hydrating drink in a glass jar with ice and a straw.

The perfect way to hydrate

Maybe you need to hydrate on a hot day, or maybe you are recovering from a recent gluten exposure and struggling with digestive symptoms. This homemade electrolyte drink is delicious, easy to make, and gluten-free!

What I love about this homemade electrolyte recipe is that I can be certain that it’s gluten-free and contains no additional additives.

Let’s get started on making my favourite homemade electrolyte drink that I make ahead and keep in the freezer.

Electrolyte Lemon-Limeade

Makes: ~6 cups

Ingredients:

  • 4 large lemons (~ 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice)
  • 4-6 limes (~1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice)
  • 1/4 tsp salt* (coarseness of fine salt, table salt, or kosher salt)
  • 5 cups water (cold or room temp)
  • 3 tbsp honey**

*While using iodized table salt is fine, it will add a cloudiness to your drink. Use sea salt or kosher salt instead if you have it.

**I don’t like when things are too sweet, so this is the ideal balance for me. If you have a sweet tooth, you can up to 3 additional tbsp of honey.

Tools:

  • Citrus reamer (optional)
  • Measuring cup & spoons
  • Blender
  • Ice cube tray (optional)

Instructions:

First, juice all of your lemons and limes into the blender. Do not add the seeds. Using a citrus reamer will help you extract a lot of juice while simultaneously separating the seeds and pulp from the drink.

Next, add the following to the blender:

  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 cups of room temperature water
  • 3 tbsp of honey

Finally, blend the mixture.

You can drink this right away, but if you’d like to save some for later, pour the remaining liquid into a standard ice cube tray. To enjoy from frozen, melt 4-6 ice cubes in a microwave-safe glass in the microwave.
